Played Hotels Today
...and trashed my mum flat.
Lessons from playing "Hotels"
1. Move as fast as possible to get as many i) lands andii)entrances as possible. Don't be scared to pay a bit of cash, for now.
2. After killing off your opponents land by building entrances directly to steal theirs, then take your time on the land.
3. It's nice to play the game a lot more realistically. Two realism problems with Hotels:
i) People do not give you buildings for free. Unless you know where to find them.
ii) You usually do not start with 10,000 in real life which, according to the economy in the game, makes you able to buy at least two plots of land. i.e. even if you had the 10,000, you should've had to pay some interest on it (per round, I should add), and to be able to buy two plots of land, anyone could be a millionaire with that kind of start-up capital.
4. But the business plan is obvious: create as many opportunities for people to be your customer. Take away the competition. And don't be afraid to spend in the short run. And look out for freebies.
My business plan: to make 4 green houses and trade them in for one red hotel. So far:
i) very small itsy-bitsy green house= Dan's Handmades
ii) in the process of learning how to do rental. if it works, it will become the model for renting out my own HDB in 2-3 yrs time.
iii) need to know law on interest, how to evict people, and what kind of benefits can I have when buying a flat near to my parents'.
iv) my personal learning formula: reading and thinking. Need to expand it to include learning on the job and making mistakes.
